Huntington Reservoir

With summer dwindling down and school approaching quickly Trav & I are trying to do all we can to take advantage of what’s left of summer. We’d been debating all week what we should do this weekend since I’ll be busy at the hospital next weekend and the one after that is right before school starts. Last minute, and I mean 2 hours before we got off work that day, we decided on an impromptu camping trip to Huntington Reservoir. We ran home to quickly pack & head out for a good spot. It was a little over an hour drive passing by farms, mountains, and even an abandoned house in a lake half under water! When we got there the views were so beautiful! We pulled off the road to an empty site with a fire pit walking distance to the reservoir, and the smell of pine trees took over the air, it was just perfect!

Once we made camp we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the water for some fishing! It was amazing because it was a beautiful shoreline of sand, rocks, clear water and a pine tree skyline, the closest thing to a beach I’d ever seen in Utah! We cast our lines, explored the shore line, and dipped our toes in the water. Trav actually went in for a swim but it was much too cold for this Florida girl!

Sadly we didn’t catch anything besides bait fish but we still had fun relaxing and enjoying the view. That night we made pigs in a blanket in the fire and, of course, no camping trip is complete without s’mores!

And can I just add that camping is so much better when you get to snuggle with someone all night! You are just a hundred times warmer plus you feel so protected! Here’s my forest hunk sharpening his machete & packing heat ;)

The next day we made some oatmeal with fruit for breakfast and headed back out to the lake for our second attempt at fishing. The family next to us were catching fish left and right, we felt so defeated, but in the end we had a good time splashing around in the water and soaking up the sun. We ended up making a bait trap out of rocks in the water, but some tadpoles made it their home instead. Oh! And we ran into a lot of interesting bugs, including a spider that was staring straight at me from the roof of our tent when I woke up that morning...

We forgot toilet paper (luckily I brought wipeys) and water (which we harvested from the melting ice in our cooler) probably the 2 most important things you need to survive in the wild, but all in all, it was a fun get-away from P-town & really made me think how grateful I am for my bed & toilet. (We really need to invest in an inflatable mattress for future camp outs) HAHA! Till our next adventure!
