As I sit on my bed typing this I am officially 39 weeks pregnant and actually in shock that I'm so far along! With Liam being born at 37 weeks, I was certain that our baby girl would've been here by now, but it seems she has plans of her own haha.
With the weather warming up and Spring & Summer here, we've been trying to take advantage and get out as much as we can. Flying kites in the park with Liam, going to the neighborhood swimming pool and play dates at the park every week to get us out of the house. Liam graduated from his Sound Beginnings music class and we also took an amazing family trip to Oregon with Trav's family which I recently blogged about. Travis took some really beautiful maternity pictures of me at the apple orchards at Rowley's Red Barn, Liam and I both got summer cuts and I had my baby shower a couple weeks after coming back from Oregon. Most recently we went to the parade for Lehi Round Up Days and celebrated the 4th of July with a BBQ, watching the fireworks show at Thanksgiving Point and lighting sparklers. Every week we just get in as much as we can because once baby girl gets here we will definitely be forced to slow down a bit. But we're looking forward to us hunkering down for a couple months to bond as a family, get to know our little girl and figure out life as a family of four.
Now that I'm so close to my due date I'm already dilated to 3cm which is great news! With Liam my water broke and not even that could get me past 1cm so I was happy to hear that there is already some progress and that my body is getting itself ready. I have the occasional contractions throughout the day and my usual aches and pains on my hips and pubic bone...oh! And don't' forget the terrible heartburn at night. Sometimes it can be really hard to sleep as that's also when baby girl prefers to be most active, but with multiple bathroom breaks and my maternity pillow I am managing to get through the nights. Besides that the hospital bags are packed, the infant car seat has been installed, baby girl's clothes have been washed and put away and the diaper caddy is packed with newborn diapers. It's all starting to feel very real that we will be parents again really soon.
The only thing that we're a little worried about is that baby girl has a slight arrhythmia and her heart will skip a beat on occasion. Because of this I've been going to labor & delivery twice a week to have a non-stress test done and make sure her heart doesn't approach 200 bpm which is when it can cause a problem. But from what they've explained its quite common and usually benign. Most arrhythmias of this type go away once the baby takes her first breathe and the pressure in the heart changes, so I feel very reassured and hopeful that it won't cause any problems for her. Only time will tell.
Next time I write it'll be about her incredible birth story. We are just so excited to have her in our arms...any day now...
