Looking back on this summer Trav and I got so much accomplished! We were married, threw two receptions, went to Florida and Cozumel on our honeymoon, moved into our new apartment, started new jobs, I did two internships, and we got callings in our new ward. We enjoyed hiking, and camping, and some not-so-successful fishing trips, but now summer’s finally over and it’s back to school! The first week wasn’t too bad. It’s Travis’ first semester full-time and although he was nervous about it he’s been ahead on all his assignments (as usual) and is preparing to apply to BYU soon. I was excited to start my last year at BYU and really like all my teachers so far. Work was a tough transition though cause now that I’m done training I’m working the early morning shift. What’s nice is that it’s slow and I can work on homework and study while I’m waiting for calls to come in, plus with class I’m home by 3 p.m. everyday and have plenty of time to do some homework, make dinner, and tidy up. Week two came the perfect storm. Elevated stress meant and increase in cortisol resulting in a decrease of white blood cells and weakening of the immune system (I’m a nerd for medicine, can you tell?). First it was Travis, who cam home from work one day feverish, with a sore throat and cough. His virus escalated to the point that he gave himself pink eye and we had to go to the instacare just so they could tell us it was viral and the only thing they could do was prescribe him drops for his pink eye and write him a doctor’s note for work. By then I had woken up with a sore throat as well, and knew that the inevitable was coming for me. I got sick too, although I’m grateful it wasn’t as bad as Travis, with a sore throat, pink eye, and a terrible cough. I’m still waiting for the cough to pass, but it’s made being on the phones at work and going to class difficult. I feel like I’m distracting the whole class with my obnoxious persistent coughing. I go equipped everyday with a full bottle of lukewarm water, cough drops, and seclude myself in a corner seat away from other students. Even though being sick has been miserable and stressful for the both of us, it’s been nice for Travis and I to have opportunities to serve one another and it has been so humbling. If there is ever a good time to get sick, it’s when you have a loving husband to take care of you! :) Even though we’ve been under the weather, we’ve still managed to do some fun things, like go to the Latin American Festival on Center Street, celebrate my sisters birthday, and throw a little mission reunion party for Chile’s Independence day on September 18th! We have lots of fun plans still set and taking advantage of the beautiful Utah weather this fall!
